The City of Kingston's Housing Right to Counsel Program

Are you facing an eviction in court? Do you need help exercising your housing rights? The City of Kingston's Right to Counsel Program can help. Effective November 1, 2023, the City of Kingston has partnered with Legal Services of the Hudson Valley to provide legal services to City of Kingston residents.

Right-to-Counsel legal services are free for eligible residents. Services can be offered in English and Spanish.

Eligibility

1) You must have a housing-related legal issue. For example:

  • Do you have a pending eviction case in Housing Court?
  • Have you received a Warrant of Eviction?
  • Have you been locked out of your apartment by your landlord without a court order or warrant?
  • Does your apartment need serious repairs but your landlord won't make them?

2) You must be a resident of the City of Kingston.

3) You must be income-eligible with a household income under 120% of Area Median Income* (see table below)

Please note that Legal Services of the Hudson Valley has full discretion over which cases to accept or reject. The City of Kingston cannot guarantee that you will receive legal services under the Right to Counsel Program.

How to Access Legal Services

You may access the City of Kingston's Right to Counsel Program by:

  • Calling the toll-free central intake telephone line: 1-877-574-8529
  • Visiting Legal Services offices at 550 Aaron Ct, Kingston, NY 12401 weekdays between 9am and 5pm; or
  • Clicking the "Get Legal Help Now" button on lshv.org.
