How much will this project cost?
The total budget for design and construction for this project is $1,500,000.
How will the City pay for this work?
The cost of the Franklin Complete Streets project will be supported by a $750,000 grant the City received from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The City of Kingston will match the grant with $750,000 of local funds.
When will the work be completed?
The current design phase will continue through the end of 2020. At that time, our consultants MJ Engineering will deliver completed designs and bid documents.
The City will then issue a Request for Bids (RFB) to prospective contractors to complete the work. The RFB will be advertised in the Kingston Daily Freeman and with the New York State Contract Reporter and Empire State Purchasing Group.
The construction phase is tentatively scheduled for June 1, 2021 through August 31, 2021.
What is a complete street?
Complete streets are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, and bicycle to work. They allow buses to run on time and make it safe for people to walk to and from train stations.
The City of Kingston is committed to designing transportation projects with complete streets in mind. This means that every transportation project will make the street network better and safer for drivers, transit users, pedestrians, and bicyclists—making our City a better place to live.
