The Common Council of the City of Kingston formally adopted the Kingston Municipal Public Art Policy on July 2, 2024. This policy outlines a way for the City of Kingston to strengthen the arts and culture sector with its growing creative economy. The document draws on best practices with a focus on sustaining the arts as the primary economic driver of the city. An action plan in the Appendix, which can be found on the right hand side of this page, guides the incremental launch of this policy.

A preliminary resource development plan expands the capacity of the Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs as a permanent municipal department, with the responsibility to administer, steward, and maintain the existing Municipal Art Collection and to present temporary and acquire new permanent art in the future while providing opportunities for community members to participate throughout the process.

As a first step, the Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs is inviting the public to participate in a comprehensive, city-wide survey which will help the department and the Kingston Arts Commission to understand the community's thoughts and feelings about public are as we plan for future arts and culture programs and projects.
