Wilbur Avenue Repaving
Consultation has concluded
Project construction is now underway and will be completed soon.
Poor drainage along Wilbur Avenue, a.k.a NYS Route 213, has long been a source of trouble for vehicles over the years, as it causes premature deterioration of the roadway. Couple that with substandard pavement and we’ve got hazardous driving conditions that make for a pretty bumpy ride.
Thanks to a grant from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT), the Wilbur Avenue Repaving Project will address both of these concerns with roadway reclamation and resurfacing from 800 feet south of Greenkill Avenue to 200 feet north of West O’Reilly. The City will do this with the help of engineering consultants Greenman-Pedersen, Inc.
Along this route that carries frequent truck traffic, the existing pavement is in poor condition. The project will rehabilitate 3,150 feet of pavement; 750 linear feet will be milled and resurfaced and 2,400 will undergo a full-depth reclamation.
Two 11-foot travel lanes with 3-foot shoulders will be constructed along the proposed roadway section. Gutters, swales, and culverts will be added to better convey stormwater runoff to the Twaalfskill Creek.
Guardrails will also be upgraded to box beam type set with extra-long posts. New signage will meet the standards of the DOT’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).The roadway will be re-striped with center-line and edge striping.
For those concerned about traffic flow during construction, no detours are expected. Instead, maintenance and protection of traffic will be performed using short duration traffic controls such as alternating one-way flow. Flaggers will also be present to direct drivers.
